I dare not take the path…
I once happened upon a hidden cave on my meanderings in the forsaken wood. I looked to it with mystified eyes, I gazed at its profile, crusted and warped from nature and time, and there I saw a deep void upon the face of the ancient crag. The dark portal, occult in nature, impenetrable by even the light of the mid-day sun. The wood was silent, so much so that a whisper could be a yell, or a broken branch could echo as intensely as a felled tree. There lies a path to that cave, neatly made, insidiously inviting. I dare not take the path, I dare not traverse that void, however each day I stare, each day I remain looking, infatuated by the deep, dark, silence of that black hole. Do not be fooled, there is no hope there within, quell the need to solve the mysteries and do not let a curious mind lead you astray, for I suspect it leads down a path of darkness from which one may never return.

Though I am curious, I thought of a hibernating bear or a virus-infected bat or poisonous reptile or… I dare not traverse that void!
